Today saw us travel to Chirk looking for a reaction and improvement from last week's home defeat. A couple of changes were made with Adam Mills coming in at right back for his debut and Mike Parry returning after his 3 match ban. The game started with us looking a bit nervous, but we soon settled down and got into the game. We were looking solid defensively and all players were working hard at frustrating chirk and we limited them to a few half chances at best. Our defending from corners was very good and 100% better than last week. We forced a couple of corners ourselves but the quality was poor from us. With half time approaching, we conceded a free kick just inside our half, the chirk player looked to play a cross to the far post, but his long punt went towards goal, Matt Griffiths seemed to be caught out by the sun and flight of the ball and it dropped into the net for 1-0. A harsh goal to concede as we were working hard to frustrate Chirk. Ht 1-0. A few words of encouragement at half time to keep doing the same and to improve our quality in the final third. The 2nd half was an even contest with both teams looking to get forward, Chirk had a shot which clipped the post but we were quite comfortable in defending, we started to put chirk under pressure on the last 10 mins and forced a couple of corners. Then Ben Jones had a great chance when Mike Parry crossed to the far post, he got a shot off and the keeper made a great save. Mike Parry was next to have a chance but shot straight at the keeper. With time running out, Mike Parry cut inside and played a ball to Callum Williams, Mike was fouled but the referee played advantage, callum burst into the box and knocked the ball past the defender and was fouled for a stonewall penalty, however the referee had turned away and blew for a free kick on Mike after playing on. This was a hard decision to take after the referee had played advantage, he stopped play and gave a free kick because he thought the players were going to come to blows. Ft 1-0. A great effort and reaction from the players today and we deserved a point, the decision at the end was hard to take, but after having a chat with the referee after the game accepted his decision. We will go again next week at home against Rhostyllen and look to get some points on the board.
