Today we welcomed Coedpoeth utd to the riverside for what would be a game both teams would be looking 3 points. With changes forced upon us due to players missing, both keepers unavailable meaning manager Ian Andrews had to go in goal. We started the game well and had a chance to go 1-0 up only for
Ben Jones to shoot over the bar. Coedpoeth came back into the game and had a goal disallowed for offside, this got Penycae going again and we started to apply pressure on the Coedpoeth goal, we were creating chance after chance but our finishing was poor and kept letting Coedpoeth off the hook. Coedpoeth had a corner and nearly took the lead when a looping header nearly caught Andrews out, only for him to react and tip over the bar. With half time approaching a lovely through ball from
Alex Rowlands set
Mike Parry free who rounded the keeper and slotted home. HT 1-0. The chat in the changing rooms was that we needed to take our chances and kill the game off. The 2nd half started with us attacking the Coedpoeth goal again but could not convert our chances. This gave Coedpoeth confidence and they now put 2 upfront and began to cause us problems pushing us back towards our 18 yard box. With time running out Coedpoeth equalised with 6 mins remaining when poor marking allowed a cross into the box where 3 Coedpoeth players were waiting against 2 defenders, the striker received the ball and calmly slotted into the bottom corner giving Andrews no chance. We still had one more chance to win it in injury time when
Ben Jones was quickest onto a flick on but his shot hit the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick. Ft 1-1. A frustrating end to a game where it felt like a loss, goals win games and we never took our chances today and it's certainly 2 points dropped.
