After last week's game was abandoned, today we had to replay our fixture against Offa Athletic in the Welsh Cup.
We warned the players not to expect an easy game after being 3-0 last week before it was called off. One change was made with
Ben Jones coming in for
Shaun Pemberton, with Josh Jones coming back into the squad.
The game started with Offa coming at us straight away, they were big and physical and clearly unsettled outside. We struggled to put 3 passes together. On 23 mins we found ourselves 1-0 down after a cross from the right found an offa player on his own at the far post for a tap in. The visitors then hit the bar from a corner and
Matt Griffiths made a good save to keep it at 1-0. On 32 mins we got ourselves back into the game when a quick counter attack found
Mike Parry on the right, he cut inside and fired into the bottom corner for 1-1. This lifted our lads and we began to apply pressure to the visito's defence. On 42 mins we went 2-1 up when
Ryan Merrill fired home from close range from an
Alex Rowlands corner. Ht 2-1. A few words were exchanged at half time about complacency and expecting to win the game without kicking a ball. The 2nd half starred with us dominating offa and playing football in there half, some good work down the left by
Ben Jones, saw him beat his man and cross into the box with
James Trigg heading into the bottom corner for 3-1. 10 mins later and it was 4-1, this time
Ben Jones heading home from a
Alex Rowlands cross. We made a couple of changes with Josh Jones and
Rhys Powell replacing
Alex Rowlands and
James Trigg. On 75 mins we went 5-1 up when captain
Josh Millington fired home from 20 yards into the corner. We were creating chance after chance and
Josh Millington got his 2nd after good play from
Rhys Powell and
Ben Jones found
milly in the box and he slotted past the keeper for 6-1. On 86 mins offa pulled a goal back with a well struck free kick from 25 yards. Ft 6-2. A good performance from the players after a sloppy opening 25 mins, the way we created chances was good to watch, we must build on this win now and look forward to next week's welsh trophy game at home against Coedpoeth.
