Mold Alexandra secured a narrow 2-1 success against Penycae despite making a sloppy start and they conceded from the off. After the setback Mold created plenty of chances to draw level, a Steve Watkins header crashed against the bar and an excellent goal line clearance from a Warren goal bound effort enabled Penycae to hold on to their lead. Mold started the second half the brighter but around the hour mark; they had Adam Renshaw shown a red card. This seemed to wake Mold up and they got back on level terms when Ben Howarth bundled home a Connor Kendrick corner. Mold were now on top despite lack of player parity and they got the winner with 5 mins remaining when Kendrick latched onto a Nash flick on to Cooley slot home the winner. Summing up, Mold boss Mike Cunningham added “It was not the best free flowing football from us today but an important 3 points for us. I always felt like we were in control of game but we just couldn’t pick the right pass or take the chances but we stuck at it and the lads coming off the bench made a big difference”. The visitors boss Ben Heath added “I am far from downhearted, in fact I am left feeling gutted as the young side we put out battled hard and we matched our hosts for much of the game. Overall I was happy enough with performance but tough pill to swallow as we deserved something from the game especially as Connor Tagoe had netted for us early on.”
