Penycae were forced into fielding a weakened team and it showed and they were beaten 1-0 by visitors Saltney Town who proved their worth. Club spokesman Darren Meredith was delighted with the scoreline stating “it really was a professional performance which saw us leave Riverside Arena with all three points. Warren Kelly’s 18th minute strike was the only difference between the two sides in a fairly even first half. However, in the second half, we showed everyone exactly what can be done with a zero budget. Wave after wave of continuous attack brought us so close to a more flattering scoreline but the home defence’s last ditch defending was enough to keep the scoreline respectable.
