We travelled to Coedpoeth knowing that we would be in for a tough test, they started off the season flying before dropping points but have recently picked up again. We knew that we would have to be back to our best.
The first 5 minutes we struggled to impose ourselves on the game, as lack of communication caused us our own problems. After the early spell we grew in to the game and clicked into our passing style. The speed of passing and limited touches on the ball caused Coedy problems. It wasn't long before we had our first real chance as Tommy Edwards smashed against the bar. The chances started coming and we just couldn't find the crucial touch in the final third. The possession eventually counted on 13 minutes as Owen Roberts swung in a dangerous free kick across the Coedy backline for Harry Bowen to power in to the top corner.
We started to turn the pressure on now and with most attacks starting from the back the movement was fluent and carved the Coedy back line open on numerous occasions. On 30 minutes Jamie Monk played in Dan McGinnis before making a underlapping run to receive the ball back before having his shot from an acute angle saved but the on rushing Morgan Daykin slotted home at the back post.
Half time ended 2-0 and the message was to make it difficult for Coedy to get back in to the game. That lasted 45 seconds as they were determined to get back into the game and clawed a goal back.
It shows great character by the young lads to put these mishaps behind them and dig in and that's what they did. We created numerous chances in the second half with Kian Davies rounding the keeper only to see his shot go wide. As the game got stretched we created chances but realistically should have been more clinical. We extended our lead on 70 mins when Ben Richards played perfectly weighted through ball for Kian Davies to swivel and fire under the keeper.
Coedy had a late rally but a fine save from Ben Darlington kept them at bay as we ran out the game for the 3 points to put us back into second.
Next up we have a break from League action as we travel to take on Holywell in the League cup QF.
