With some many games called off due to the weather it was an opportunity to get more points on the board and go three points clear, albeit the chasing pack have games in hand.
After playing Johnstown preseason we knew what to expect from them and with the wind being a leveler it was difficult yo get any rhythm early on. After a few counter attacks that saw Tom Edwards & Ruben Monterio going close, we took the lead through Tom Edwards on 10 minutes as he received a through ball from Ruben Monterio before swiveling and drilling home from 12 yards. Two minutes later we extended our lead as a Harry Bowen corner was met at the back post by Aaron Jones to open his account for the season as he headed home from close range.
Johnstown steadied the flow for a while and credit to them dug in, as we had some dubious offside decisions given against us.
We finally extended our lead on 38 minutes as some possession play starting at the back resulted in Luke Peters squaring for Elliot Kavanagh to smash home, and on the stroke of half time Luke Peters got himself on the score sheet as Tom Edwards flashed a shot across the box for him to slot home at the back post giving us 4-0 halftime lead.
Second half was a case of keeping the ball and picking up no injuries or bookings. It wasn't long before we extended our lead as a Harry Bowen free kick crept under the keeper for his first of the season. Making his debut was Danny Mongan who impressed after coming on for Luke Peters and after some good work at full back from Kyle Jarvis, he curled home from 25 yards to seal his debut with a goal. We could have extended our lead only for Harry Bowen' penalty being saved by the Johnstown Keeper. Only 70 minutes we made it 7-0 as Dan McGinnis, returning after a lay off, raced through after being released by Ruben Monterio to slot home.
Johnstown got a consolation goal on 72 minutes before we extended our lead three minutes later when some good link up play by Dan McGinnis & Danny Mongan released Harry Bowen to cross for Tom Edwards to tap in at the back post for his second of the game.
The biggest cheer of the game came as Kyle Davies, who has been superb this season, went on a marauding run before being brought down by the Johnstown keeper. Davies then stepped up to get his first of the season as he smashed the penalty into the roof of the net.
A convincing 9-1 win for the young lads, with lads returning and making debuts with more set to return in the following weeks puts us in the healthy position as we leave the league programme for a week and turn our attention to the NEWFA u19 cup on Sunday when we welcome Coedpoeth u19's to the Riverside in a 13:30 ko
