Round 2 of the Wales FA Youth Cup gave us a trip to the seaside to take on Llandudno academy.
The game started with teams being a bit cagey but it was us who started to threaten with Tom Edwards providing the threat as he got the better of the full back on numerous occasions. The first chance fell to us as Rhys Powell threaded Alex Rowlands through only to see his shot well saved. We caused trouble on corners with numerous chances going close, whilst we restricted Llandudno to set pieces which we defended well. The break through came on 24 minutes as Tom Edwards provided a perfect wingers cross which flashed across goal and the on rushing Josh Mazzarella converted from close range. The momentum continued to get broken up by the referees whistle as our players were constantly pulled up and threatened with cautions and red cards.
Llandudno drew level on 42 minutes as our corner was cleared and a poor pass was intercepted and a long ball released the striker, the out rushing Ben Darlington managed to get a hand to it but we failed to clear off our line and the Llandudno striker converted from close range.
All level at the break.
Second half is best left for fear of saying something that will land me in a disciplinary room. We had numerous chances from distance and Alex Rowlands & Austin Owen went close. We switched off for a Llandudno corner which was converted from close range in the 89th minute. We were to get one last chance as Austin Owen was sent through in the 93rd minute only to see yet another flag raised by the linesman.
It was a tough result to take, but when the match officials are on first name terms with the opposition players and staff then your always up against it. My lads gave everything and to have the game influenced by the officials is hard to take. Yes we conceded two soft goals but every time we built momentum the whistle and cards came out. Back to league action next week as we look to bounce back and then NEWFA cup sunday.
Another busy weekend for the young lads, hopefully its on a level playing field.
