Playing against an experienced Mold outfit who are a league up was always going to be a good test of the attitude of the lads to adapt. Our starting XI showed what we are trying to achieve going forward with an average age of 17 ½, and 9 of the starting XI having played in our youth teams.
The young lads have really taken to senior football and after a shaky 10 minutes, we just started to settle on the ball when a rushed free kick caused us our own problems and we conceded a soft goal.
After that the lads settled into their passing game and moved the ball quickly and efficiently. A flowing one touch move resulted in Kian Davies playing Tom Edwards through on the left who delivered a first time pin point cross for the on rushing Dan McGinnis to slot home at the back post.
The first half continued with Mold looking to find the ball behind our back four while, which called Ben Darlington into a great one handed save, whilst we were causing problems with our speed and movement up top. The half ended all square at 1-1
Second half and we dominated possession and created the best chances, so it was hard to take when the striker was in an offside position before being brought down inside the box, with the striker converting the penalty to put us 2-1 down. The lads bounced back and showed a great attitude to get back in the game.
We levelled soon after when Tom Edwards delivered a corner from the right hand side for Ryan Merrill to head home from close range.
After that we created numerous half chances, before the Mold keeper pulled off a world class save from a 25 yard Tom Edwards shot, which was destined for the top corner. More half chances went begging as Aaron Jones, James Trigg & Dan McGinnis went close. In the 86th minute we conceded the decisive goal, more by unfortunate circumstances, as Ruben Monterio& Aaron Jones both made last ditched tackles only for the ball to fall kindly at the Mold striker’s feet to prod home from 5 yards.
