The last of the midweek fixtures welcomed Brymbo to the Riverside, in what we knew was to be a tough test.
With some of the young lads returning from holiday the squad is starting to take shape, and things are starting to click on the field.
We didn’t get off to the start we wanted, as we fell to behind on 3 minutes when a long ball over the top caused us problems and a lack of communication from Ben Darlington in goal and Dyfan Smith saw the ball loop over Darlington and into an empty net.
We coped with the physical test well and started to move the ball quickly but the ball just wouldn’t fall to us in the final third. We continued to stick to our way of playing and in the 40th minute a Dan McGinnis cross looked to have evaded the on rushing Kian Davies & Tom Edwards, only for Edwards to expertly control before squaring to Davies for a tap in from 6 yards. Four minutes later we were ahead as Harry Bowen picked the ball up in his own half before linking up well with Ben Richards, Bowen then played a perfectly weighted pass between the Brymbo full back & centre back for the on rushing Dan McGinnis to slide the ball across the box for his strike partner Tom Edwards to convert at the back post. The lads went in at half time 2-1 up and in a mood knowing there was more to come.
Second half and it took us 3 minutes before we extended our lead as the impressive Ben Richards slid in Kian Davies to smash home his second of the game. We started to create Brymbo problems with the movement off the ball and had a few dubious offside decisions given against us but on 60 minutes Kian Davies claimed his hat-trick, as a through ball which was meant for Kyle Davies, who realised he was in an offside position so cleverly left the ball for Davies to run through and slot home.We should have extended our lead with both Luke Peters & Harry Bowen both going close, before Alex Rowlands got in on the act and connected on the turn to drill the ball into the roof of the net from 35 yards. Brymbo had a late rally but everything they threw at us, Dyfan Smith seemed to get his head on to clear wide. Some excellent performances throughout the whole team adding to our tally in the early stages of the season.
