This was the start of a big weekend for the squad, as the prospect of some of the lads playing two games in two days with the Welsh FA Youth Cup.
Firstly we had to ensure we carried on our momentum in the league against an Overton team who had won 3 on the bounce since our last meeting.
We didn't get off to the best start and after some confusion in our box off a corner Overton took the lead on 4 minutes when the ball fell kindly to be smashed home from 8 yards. We struggled to find any rhythm and looked as though we had one eye on the game tomorrow and we fell further behind on 15 minutes when a soft shot from 20 yards crept into the bottom corner.
That goal finally kicked us in to life and when Tommy Edwards was up ended in the box on 17 minutes Ben Richards stepped up to smash home. Now the lads had the bit between their teeth and when Ben Richards brought a high ball down with the outside of his foot and raced clear there was only going to be one outcome, back of the net.
The lads were bang at it now and winning the ball and putting Overton under pressure all over the pitch, when we won the ball high up the pitch from a well worked press Tom Edwards had his shot well saved but the ball fell kindly to Tommy Edwards to put us ahead on 25 minutes.
Some turn around and the lads hadn't finished as attack after attack made the likelyhood of more goals evident. On 40 minutes some quick passing let to Tom Edwards being released down the left by Ben Richards, he then played a inch perfect first time ball across the box for Ruben Monterio to convert at the back post. More chances followed as Harry Bowen hit the cross bar from 25 yards we went in with a 4-2 half time lead.
Second half and we started off as we had finished the first with wave after wave of attacks, whilst defensively we prevented any real threat from Overton, the chances of Overton making a comeback where reduced on 60 minutes as their midfielder saw Red for a high challenge on Tom Edwards.
By now it was a case of keep ball and on 70 minutes Josh Mazzarella made an attacking run down the right before his cross found Ruben Monterio to get his brace.
By now the game was comfortable and with Overton not threatening our goal it was a case of waiting for the opportune moment to attack and on 80 minutes a high press forced Overton to lose possession and Tommy Edwards slotted home his second of the afternoon. We hadnt finished and only a minute passed before a Harry Bowen corner was met by Tommy Edwards at the back post to grab his hat-trick and our seventh of the afternoon.
A brilliant performance and great attitude shown by the young lads to come back from two nil down and win convincingly.
Next week we are in league action as we make the short trip to Johnstown.
