This was a little bit of history for our club, as we entered the FAW Youth Cup for the very first time. And it set us up with a difficult fixture as we welcomed Porthmadog Academy to the Riverside who are unbeaten in the domestic league.

The first few minutes Porthmadog started the strongest as their midfield three used the ball well but a break away against the run of play resulted in Austin Owen bustling his was through and swiveling in the box  and smashing the ball home from close range on four minutes.

The lads grew in belief from that moment and both teams exchanged possession but both defences held up strong. When Harry Bowen brought a Porth player down outside the box it was a shock to see the referee point to the whistle. Porth leveled with the spotkick to make it all square. The game was back and too with neither team able to break down the opposition defense and create any clear chances but we went in ahead at half time as after a Owen shot was saved Tom Edwards was on hand to smash home right footed from close range.

The second half was over as soon as it started as we Austin Owen got two quick fire goals on 47 & 48 to all but seal the contest. The first coming from a well delieved Harry Bowen corner to the back post for Owen to head home then a counter attack by Tom Edwards released Owen to put us 4-1 up.

The stuffing had been knocked out of Porthmadog and we started to control the game and could have extended our lead but for the Porth keeper. We extended out lead on 63 minutes as Alex Rowlands scored from the spot before another counter attack released Alex Rowlands to get his second of the game to wrap the win and put us into the hat for the next round.

What a way to announce ourselves in the Welsh Cup. The next round sees us up against another academy as we travel to Llandudno academy on the 4th November.
