After 6 hard training sessions it was nice to get some game time and see how the lads gelled. The squad was made up of majority of young lads with 8 of the starting 11 coming through our your section.

Playing against a more mature opposition myself & Garz were interested in how the young lads stepping up would cope, with Rhostyllen coming runners up last season it was a good marker as to where we are at.

We started the game in a relaxed manner moving the ball quickly and using the pace in the side to cause Rhostyllen problems.

Kian Davies opened the scoring with a first time shot from 20 yards in to the bottom corner after some build up playing from the back which resulted in Harry Bowen playing him through.

Going forward we caused the Rhostyllen defence problems with our link up play and speed. It wasn’t long before we extended our lead through Davies as he got on the scoresheet for a second time as he latched on to a Dan McGinnis cross to smash home from 8 yards.

McGinnis then helped himself to a goal after his return from injury before setting up Ruben Monterio to slot home from 5 yards.

McGinnis & Davies then linked up again as McGinnis rounded the keeper before unselfishly squaring to his strike partner Davies to grab his hat-trick.

Giving us a 5-0 half time lead.

Second half was a reserved performance as we slowed the pace down as we ringed the changes.

But not to be outdone by the youngsters Ben Jones was set free by a perfectly weighted ball to race clear and give the keeper no chance with his rasping drive, before Rhostyllen grabbed a conciliation goal in the dying moments.

Overall a good performance but we will take the positives and the negatives and learn from them.

We have a few more young lads to come in to the squad and plenty of hard work to get through. The mentality in the squad is strong and it shows in the commitment in training. Overall a positive start and a good performance.
