After the stop start we’ve had to the New Year with the weather & the referee shortage it was nice to get back out on to the field.

We travelled to Ruthin, who we’d played twice already, with the 1-0 cup victory at their place in our favour and looking to make amends for letting them claw back a 2-0 lead at our place a few weeks back.

It didn’t take us long to get our noses in front, all of 44 SECONDS to be exact as a diagonal pass from Aaron Jones  found Ruben Monterio setting up a nice combination between Monterio & Morgan Daykin which resulted in the latter playing the ball into Ramone Nelson as he swivelled and fired home.

The goal rocked Ruthin and from then we controlled the game. As normally happens the opposition try to kick lumps out the lads but as normally happens this just makes them more determined. We had numerous chances in the first half as 3 or 4 corners flashed across the Ruthin goal, Kian Davies raced clear and seen his chance goal agonisingly close. We closed the half out to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

For such a young side up against a Ruthin “Development side” the lad’s game management of the second half was outstanding. They controlled the game and although Ben Darlington was called into action in nets with two excellent saves we created chances to extend our lead. A mix-up between the Ruthin keeper & defender gifted Ruben Monterio with the ball and his cross eluded everyone to extend our lead. On 75 minutes a well delivered corner from Tom Edwards was met at the back post by Aaron Jones who squeezed his header home. That knocked Ruthin and after that we sat in and defended well, launching counter attacks down both flanks.

From the warm-up I sensed the lads went going to leave Memorial Fields without all three points. The victory now puts us in a good position as we continue our promotion push
